UK Board of Trustees creates a College of Medicine

1956

Kentucky General Assembly approves funding request from Gov. Albert B. “Happy” Chandler; Dr. William R. Willard selected to oversee development of a medical center; Dr. Willard issues philosophy statement

1960

First students are accepted to the UK College of Medicine

1957

Groundbreaking ceremony at Rose Street and Limestone Road

1960

College of Medicine accepts its first students

1962

Construction completed on hospital at Chandler Medical Center

1984

Kentucky Clinic established

1986

Lucille P. Markey Cancer Center opens

1997

Gill Heart Institute established

1997

Linda and Jack Gill Heart Building/Institute established

2006

UK President Lee T. Todd, Jr., unveils plans for 1 million-square-foot hospital

2007

Ground broken for new UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital; new UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital parking structure opens with 1,600 parking spaces
