Preadmission Testing
Your surgeon's office
will make an appointment for you to come to the hospital between
one and seven days prior to the date of your surgery for lab work,
other tests and instructions.
A consent for surgery
must be signed by you or by someone authorized to sign for you.
Unless married, patients under the age of 18 need the signature
of a parent or a duly authorized guardian.
Unless otherwise
directed by your surgeon, you may not eat or drink anything after
midnight the night before surgery.
The Day of Your
Operation
As an outpatient,
we would like for you to arrive 2 hours prior to your scheduled
surgery time. You and your family will stop and check in with admissions
and then proceed to the Outpatient Center. If you have been through
Pre-Admission Testing, you will go directly to the Outpatient Center.
Once in your room, you will be asked to remove all jewelry, makeup,
nail polish, glasses and dentures.
In the Operating
Room
A member of our staff
will transport you to surgery. When you are taken into the operating
room, the anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist will give you the
anesthetic and monitor you throughout the procedure. Our highly
skilled operating room staff will take special care of you while
you are in surgery.
Recovery Room
Following surgery,
you will be taken immediately to the recovery room, which is staffed
with skilled nursing professionals. Your stay in recovery depends
upon the type of surgery you have and the type of anesthesia administered.
Family members are not permitted in the recovery room. Your family
will be notified when the operation is over, when you are in the
recovery room and when you return to your room.
Going Home
Your physician is
the only one who can complete the discharge order for you to go
home. Your physician should let you know in time to make any necessary
arrangements. Before you leave, the doctor or nurse may have instructions
to give you for continued care at home. This is a good time to ask
questions or follow-up on any concerns you may have.
When you leave the
hospital, please be sure to take all personal belongings home with
you, including any valuables you may have stored in our hospital
safe. For your safety and comfort, a hospital staff member will
escort you to the main lobby.
