Christi M. Willen, MD

Biography

My name is Christi Willen; I received my medical degree from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, graduating summa cum laude. After an internship at Carraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. I completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. I then completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky, Lexington. I am a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

I am board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. I have special interest in pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, and adult motility disorders.

Personal statement

The most common condition that I treat is amblyopia. Amblyopia is a condition often referred to as lazy eye or lazy vision, when vision development really gets behind. We're actually able to restore function in these children with treatment. Vision is something that is precious to all of us, especially the vision of pediatric patients. The opportunity to impact the lives of children is incredible. The patients that I'm able to take care of who have debilitating conditions and that I’m able to restore to function are some of the most rewarding patients.
