James McCormick received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut, School of Medicine, Farmington. He then completed a fellowship at St. Francis Hospital and a post-doctoral fellowship in Lung Immunopathology at the University of Connecticut in Farmington, Conn.

McCormick is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Geriatric Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
