Peter Hosein is a board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. He obtained his medical degree from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. He then did his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla. He was a formerly a faculty member at the University of Miami/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center prior to coming to the University of Kentucky. His office is located at the Markey Cancer Center where he is a specialist in gastrointestinal cancers and sarcomas. Hosein has conducted and participated in multiple phase I, II and III clinical trials in hematological cancers as well as gastrointestinal cancers.
His main research interest is in pancreatic cancer where he is studying new treatments for patients who are not surgical candidates. He is also conducting research in hepatocellular cancer (primary liver cancer) and gastroesophageal cancers.
