Terrence Barrett joins the UK HealthCare faculty from Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he had been on staff since 1992 and a professor in the Division of Gastroenterology since 2008. He came to Lexington in June as Chief of Gastroenterology.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Illinois, he completed his residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago. He completed fellowships in gastroenterology, IBD and immunology at the University of Chicago.

Barrett is the recipient of numerous prestigious research grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. He serves on the editorial board of numerous national and international journals and has authored more than 200 articles, abstracts, book reviews and editorials.

Barrett specializes in complex inflammatory bowel disease and is part of an NCI clinical trial for patients with colitis-induced dysplasia.

Barrett has expertise in chromoendoscopy in the evaluation and detection of colitis-induced dysplasia. He is one of only a few physicians nationally who have experience in this procedure. He is available for direct referrals for colonoscopy with chromoendoscopy in patients needing colitis surveillance.
