Admission
If you arrive at the Markey Cancer Center Monday - Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., you can be admitted at the location where your services will be provided. Visitors
Visitors are encouraged to come between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. During this time, the main entrance of Markey Cancer Center is open. After 9 p.m., visitors should use the main entrance of UK Chandler Hospital and the second floor walkway which connects the buildings.
Patients may wish to have family and friends help with their care while at Markey. Speak with your nurse if you want to make arrangements for someone to stay with you overnight.

After-hours calls
If you have an urgent situation after hours that you think requires a doctor’s attention, please call 859-323-5321 and ask the operator to page the Oncology doctor on call. A doctor is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Markey Cancer Center Hours The following Markey Cancer Center outpatient services are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. We are closed on weekends and major holidays.

The Chemotherapy Infusion Suite is open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
*Walk-ins: Please remember to call before coming to the cancer center without an appointment. Your physician may not be available to see you.
When To Call Your Doctor or Nurse
Signs and symptoms about which to call:
• fever greater than 100.5 degrees;
• shaking chills;
• blood in your bowel movement or urine;
• uncontrolled nausea and vomiting;
• uncontrolled diarrhea;
• mental status change; for example, confusion;
• redness, swelling or drainage from any wound or venous access device

If you need urgent care please call 911 or go to your nearest Emergency Room.
Prescriptions
Please bring your medicine bottles and a current list of medicines you are taking with you to your doctor's appointment. Ask for the prescription refill while your doctor is in the room with you. Please allow 72 hours for prescription refills by your doctor and for presciptions requiring prior authorization from your insurance company. Remember to tell your doctor about any drug allergies you have.
Please remember all physicians are not in the outpatient center every day so be sure to call 72 hours in advance for prescription pick-up.
Most pain medications cannot be called into a pharmacy – federal law requires pain medicine prescriptions be written. These prescriptions may be picked up in person or mailed. Please allow seven business days for delivery by mail. Please be aware of how much medication you have left and how much you need before choosing to have any prescription mailed to you.

Patient and Family Services Markey patients and family members will have access to all the patient and family services offered by UK Chandler Hospital. These include patient representatives, dieticians, multi-specialty cancer education, pharmacy and chaplain services. In addition, a specialty symptom management and palliative care service is available. Extensive cancer information and education resources are available through the Markey Cancer Center's Kentucky Cancer Program and the Cancer Information Service.
The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge also offers lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers. You must have a referral from your physician or a Markey Cancer Center social worker. Visit the American Cancer Society's Web site for more information.
