Letter from the Physician-in-Chief
With the help of supporters across the state, Jeff Moscow, MD, chief of hematology oncology, was able to open a newly renovated pediatric hematology clinic in 2005. This success made him a true believer in the need to enlist the help of people in our Commonwealth to elevate the level of care we offer Kentucky children.
For years, families and patients have credited Dr. Moscow and his staff for terrific care. Before 2005, the facility in which Dr. Moscow and his staff worked met the standard level that state and insurance dollars could provide. This meant patients waiting for test results from an outside lab, walking great lengths to other hospital departments and sharing treatment rooms with many other children. Dr. Moscow and the families of his patients rallied together and raised financial support in the community. Children now receive more efficient service in a more comfortable setting. The new clinic is a shining example for Dr. Moscow’s maxim, “Private support makes a hospital great.”

Dr. Moscow is absolutely correct. Private dollars are essential to providing the highest level of care for children in Kentucky. Private support makes research possible. It attracts superior specialists and sub-specialists so our families and children do not need to travel to other states for care. It makes it possible to have equipment and facilities tailored to meet the needs of children, who can’t simply make do with adult-sized equipment.
Children in our Commonwealth have a number of serious needs. Kentucky Children’s Hospital has made a priority list of these needs, and we need your support to check the list and fulfill needs. These needs are diverse, but the root of each is found in research. We need to fund research and prevent children from ever becoming sick. We need private support to make this happen. We need private support to care for our children because they deserve the best.
Through this web site, you will learn about a number of ways to join in supporting Kentucky Children’s Hospital. After all, as Dr. Moscow would point out, we need the support of private dollars. Our children deserve a great children’s hospital.
