Safe Kids Fayette County honored in Top Five Worldwide Coalitions of the Year
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 1, 2005) - Safe Kids Fayette County was one of five worldwide coalitions nominated as the 2005 Safe Kids Worldwide Coalition of the Year. The nomination is a credit to the coalition's hard work and tremendous collaborative achievements made in educating families in the community on the issue of preventing accidental childhood injury.
"We are doing wonderful things here and it is so great to be nationally recognized for our efforts," said Sherri Hannan, Safe Kids Fayette County coordinator.
Safe Kids Fayette County is active in educating the community about child restraint safety, fire prevention, seat belts, pedestrian safety, bicycle safety and many other forms of childhood injury prevention.
In December 2003, Safe Kids Fayette County dedicated a 2004 Chevy Express Cargo Van to assist with child safety seat check ups. The van was sponsored by the Safe Kids Buckle Up Program and is equipped with everything necessary for technicians to do child safety seat check ups.
Safe Kids Fayette County hosts several car seat checks in the Lexington area each month. During the checks, a certified car seat technician properly installs a car seat and teaches the caregiver how to properly install a car seat as well.
